Letter Mania

For some reason, I feel like writing and receiving letters.
In my wallet, I still treasure the 5 line letter which my mother sent
along with the ATM card 5 years ago. Whenever I miss my home (and
whenever I don’t ), I take out the letter which reads thus,

എന്തുണ്ട് വിശേഷം? എന്നും തന്നെ വിളിക്കുന്നതു കൊണ്ട് വിശേഷം ഒന്നും
തന്നെ പറയാനില്ല. എന്നത്തേയും പല്ലവി തന്നെ – അന്നന്ന് എടുക്കുന്ന
പാഠങ്ങള്‍ അന്നന്ന് തന്നെ പഠിക്കുക.
ഇന്ന് ലക്ഷ്മണന്‍ മാഷ് ബാങ്കില് വന്നിരുന്നു. ലോററ്റിനു തേര്‍ഡ്
സെമെസ്റ്റെര്‍ എക്സാം തുടങ്ങുകയാണ്. മാഷ് പറയുകയായിരുന്നു കുട്ടികളൊക്കെ
എന്ത് വേഗമാണ് വലുതാവുന്നത്; ജിതിന്‍ ഒക്കെ ഞൊടിയിടയില്‍ എഞ്ചിനീയര്‍ ആയി
ഇങ്ങ് എത്തുമെന്ന്. അതുതന്നെയാണ് ഞാനും പറയുന്നത്. നല്ലൊരു എഞ്ചിനീയര്‍
ആയി വരണം. പോന്നുവിനും അച്ഛനും സുഖം തന്നെ. വേറെ വിശേഷം ഒന്നുമില്ല.

Translation
What’s up there? Since we call almost daily, there is nothing much to
say. As usual, the same old pallavi – Study the lessons on the same
day it is taken. Today Lakshmanan Sir had come to the bank. Lorette’s
third semester exam is about to commence. He was saying, “How quickly
do these children grow up! Jithin will come back as a good engineer in
a jiffy.” That is what I wish too. Come back as a good engineer. Ponnu
and Dad are fine here. Nothing more.

Does Infosys allow sending and receiving letters by ordinary post? I
badly feel like receiving letters to the extent that I may even take a
postbox in the Mysore Post office. Anybody else out there who loves
letters and hates mails and scraps and sms?!
